Howard M. Cohen has written for considerably more publications than the average journalist. That’s why finding a solution for how to present and how to protect his work has been vital for him.

Hi Howard, thanks for agreeing to share your experience with Authory so far. Please tell us a little bit about your background as a journalist/writer.

After 35 years as an executive in the IT industry I broke out 12 years ago as a freelancer writing for and about the industry for various publications, and also marketing and other materials for IT companies like IBM, Cisco, Xerox, Citrix, New Horizons, and many more.

You have been using Authory for more than 2 years now. What did you look for initially?

I had tried several ways of creating an online portfolio of my work. The consistent challenge was making them easy enough to update daily in a reasonable amount of time. It needed to be professional-looking and easy for my clients to search.

Howard is written almost 600 articles for an incredible 54 different publications. With his Authory account, he protects his works and at the same time has a self-updating portfolio page that he can show to his clients.

And how has Authory worked for? Have your expectations been fulfilled?

Exceeded. Retaining my content even after the original poster has taken it down has been invaluable. Searching and filtering are both great, especially the ability to look for specific formats of writing.

Most of my clients want to see samples that are same or similar to what they need written, such as white papers, case studies, web content, etc.

It’s usually far more important than keywords, period of time, publication, topic, or anything else. Authory makes that easy in a very attractive site that’s a pleasure to visit.

You are truly a veteran of the IT industry with more than 35 years of experience as an executive. When and why did you decide to become a writer?

At age eight. Seriously. My second grade teacher inspired a passion in me for writing that never left. As an executive I always did my own writing.

My last “job” burned me out just when the economy was being tanked in 2008. I had an inspirational aunt who, suddenly, at age 55 started a business of her own. At that moment in time I was approaching 55 and decided if I didn’t do it then I never would, so I launched a writing practice.

It’s been a great ride and I’ve never looked back!!

Writing is just one of the services you offer. You are also a presenter and a consultant. How does Authory work for you in this context?

I post videorecordings of my webinars on Authory regularly. My clients and followers love receiving the email newsletter every time I do. Makes it easy for them to follow me!

I’ve turned consulting into an added-value that I provide to my writing clients. It can become too consuming and distract from the writing. At the end of the day, I’m a writer. I can’t express how good it feels to be able to say that.

Howard has pinned a link to his Authory page with the right Call-to-Action to the top of his Twitter timeline, making it easy for anybody interested in his work to subscribe to new pieces.

What would you say to your colleagues about Authory?

You want this platform. You’ll increase your business and have the kind of CV you can always be proud to share.
